Into the Unknown

She’d only let her phone ring once before she excitedly answered.
“Hi, honey! How’s work?”
“We had our first COVID patient today.”
She sat down, silently.
“It’s bad.” He paused. “Don’t…come home tonight. Just stay at your mom’s for now.”
“Until when?”
“Until it’s over.”
“But when is that?”
“…I don’t know.” He whispered.
